17 Wing/CFB Winnipeg

There were 1,716 regular military, 283 reserve Class A and B forces and 117 civilian workers at 17 Wing/CFB Winnipeg at the end of December 2005.

Present Functions

The current functions of 17 Wing/CFB Winnipeg are to provide:

  • transport and air to air refuelling operations,
  • search and rescue,
  • a variety of training functions,
  • support to 1 Canadian Air Division and Canadian NORAD Region HQ.
  • support to operational units and schools, and to reserves and cadets in the region.

  • CF School of Survival and Aeromedical Training,
  • Air Command Band,
  • Central Flying School,
  • CF Housing Authority,
  • Regional Cadet Support Unit (Prairies).
