5 Wing/CFB Goose Bay

There were 76 regular military, 9 reserve Class A and B forces, and 262 civilian workers at 5 Wing/CFB Goose Bay at the end of December 2005.

Present Functions

The current functions of 5 Wing/CFB Goose Bay are to provide support to:

  • the Goose Bay Allied Military Training In Canada (GAMTIC) Program for the German Air Force and the Italian Air Force by acting as an on-site "agent" for the various Allies,
  • a Canadian Deployed Operating Base (DOB) of CF-18s operationally committed to NORAD.

  • 444 Combat Support Squadron,
  • German Air Force Tactical Training Support Group,
  • Royal Air Force Unit.
