9 Wing/CFB Gander

There were 125 regular military, 60 reserve Class A and B forces, and 36 civilian workers at 9 Wing/CFB Gander at the end of December 2005.

Present Functions

The current functions of 9 Wing/CFB Gander are to provide:

  • search and rescue operations,
  • support to CFS Leitrim Detachment and reserve forces and cadets in the region,
  • support to the Canadian Coastal Radar (CCR) installation and training,
  • support to 2 Royal Newfoundland Regiment,
  • support to 42 Cadet Units in the region,
  • support to 5 Canadian Rangers Patrol Group.
Operational & Support Units
  • 103 Search and Rescue Squadron,
  • Airfield Engineering Flight Gander,
  • CFS Leitrim Detachment Gander,
  • 5 Canadian Ranger Patrol Group,
  • Air Reserve Det Torbay.
