Honours and Recognition
"When you look at military decorations and citations, it truly demonstrates to all Canadians a sense of duty, sacrifice and service to Canada. You see the same words time and time again - courage, leadership, determination, selflessness, dedication, skill and initiative."
General Natynczyk, Chief of Defence Staff
The Canadian Honours system recognizes outstanding
achievements, gallantry in combat, bravery and service to the Crown and country. In
Canada, all honours emanate from Her Majesty the Queen and are divided into three
main categories: orders, decorations and medals.
The Directorate of Honours and Recognition (DH&R) is responsible for the development of the Canadian Forces honours policy. Military honours are part of a national system for all Canadians that includes the creation and administration of Canadian national and military honours and awards.
