Casualty Support
"We are committed to caring for our injured and their families, all across the country. That involves providing time to heal, time to adjust, and time to prepare for the next phase. It involves real options - options for meaningful jobs if they wish to remain in the Forces. And if not, options including further education and job placements to assist them in their transition to civilian life."
General Natynczyk, Chief of Defence Staff
The Canadian Forces (CF) and the Department of National
Defence, in partnership with Veterans Affairs Canada, are committed to ensuring
that all injured, ill and retired members who have served Canada are supported with
programs, information and guidance regarding their future planning.
Reporting to the Directorate General Personnel and Family Support Services (DGPFSS), the Directorate of Casualty Support Management (DCSM) is responsible for creating programs to help ill and injured members successfully reintegrate to their military careers or adjust to the civilian workforce, and provide assistance so that they and their families may continue to enjoy the quality of life they deserve. Programs provided by DCSM include: the Joint Personnel Support Unit, the Atomic Veteran's Recognition Program, Operational Stress Injury Social Support (OSISS), information on Death and Disability Benefits and occupational transition programs including Vocational Rehabilitation and the Transition Assistance Program (TAP).
