The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, is joined by the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs) and General Tom Lawson, the Chief of the Defence Staff at a press conference announcing the upcoming deployment of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) personnel as part of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).
Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, awards U.S. Senator John McCain an Honourary Doctorate of Military Science from the Royal Military College of Canada in Washington, D.C. During his visit to the American capital, Minister MacKay also met with new U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and delivered an address to the Council of Delegates of the Inter-American Defense Board and representatives of the Organization of American States.
The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence met for the first time, on June 3, 2013, with his Chinese counterpart, General Chang Wanquan, to discuss their views on the challenges of regional and global security, as well as Canada-China defence relations. Minister MacKay was the first Canadian Minister of Defence to visit China in the last 10 years and one of the first Western Defence leaders to meet with the new Chinese Minister of National Defence.
The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, and his Mongolian counterpart, Minister of Defence Dashdemberel Bat-Erdene, met during the International Institute for Strategic Studies’ (IISS) annual Forum in Singapore, to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that solidifies plans for continued defence cooperation and exchanges between the two nations.
Minister MacKay, accompanied by members of the Canadian Armed Forces, marks the official opening of the William Hall VC Building, the new Health Services Centre at 14 Wing Greenwood.

In a keynote address at the Canadian Club of Toronto today, the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, announced that the Government of Canada has restored the historical names of five Canadian Army corps, in addition to changing the title of another.
The historical designations of the following corps have been restored: Royal Canadian Armoured Corps; The Corps of Royal Canadian Engineers; Royal Canadian Corps of Signals; Royal Canadian Infantry Corps; and The Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. The announcement of the restoration of historical names for Canadian Army corps is the next step in the phased approach begun in August 2011, when the historical name of the Canadian Army was restored.
Minister MacKay also issued a statement regarding the introduction of two Canadian Armed Forces members who will participate in the Walking With the Wounded South Pole Allied Challenge.
Minister MacKay tours the Memorial Chamber on Parliament Hill where the Seven Books of Remembrance are situated. In these books are found the names of more than 118,000 Canadians who made the ultimate sacrifice in their service to Canada.
At NDHQ, the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, announces investments of approximately $20 million for innovative science and technology projects to enhance Canadian public safety and security. The projects are part of the Canadian Safety and Security Program (CSSP), led by Defence Research and Development Canada's Centre for Security Science and in partnership with the Public Safety Canada.

The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, met Thomas de Maiziere, Minister of Defence, Germany, during the NATO Defence Ministerial meeting taking place in Brussels on February 21-22, 2013. Over the course of the two days, Minister MacKay held 11 bilateral meetings. He also met with his counterparts from Australia, Croatia, Finland, France, Georgia, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, Turkey, and United Kingdom.
