September 1, 2010 - Mirabel, Quebec
President of L3-MAS Sylvain Bédard, Minister of National Defence Peter MacKay, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Major Daniel Dionne, test pilot at Canadian Forces Weapons System Management Detachment at Mirabel, walk in front of a CF-18 Hornet prior to the $467 million CF-18 maintenance renewal contract announcement at the L3 facility in Mirabel, Quebec, on September 1, 2010. L-3 Communications MAS was awarded a seven-year contract extension for systems maintenance of the modernized CF-18 Hornet fleet. Three additional options for one-year extensions would bring this contract to the end of the fleet’s estimated service life in the 2020 timeframe, as the Canadian Forces transition to the CF-18's successor, the new F-35 Lightning II. A CF fighter jet capability is vital to the defence of Canadian and North American air space against existing and future security threats.
