2011 Royal Tour

Royal Tour

The Royal Tour will take place from June 30 to July 8, 2011.

Men and women of Regular and Reserve Force units, including The Canadian Rangers, will support the lead agency, Canadian Heritage, across Canada with ceremonial and logistical support.

Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit:

  • The National Capital Region, from June 30 to July 2 (including a wreath-laying ceremony at the National War Memorial at 2:35 p.m. on June 30);
  • Montréal, Quebec, on July 2 (including a night aboard HMCS Montréal, en route to Quebec City at 9:55 p.m.);
  • Quebec City, Quebec, on July 3 (including a Freedom of the City ceremony with the Royal 22e Régiment at 12:15 p.m.);
  • Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, on July 3;
  • Summerside, Prince Edward Island, on July 4 (including a Search and Rescue demonstration at Summerside Harbour at 3:55 p.m.);
  • Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, on July 5 (including an event with Canadian Rangers in Blachford Lake at 3:30 p.m.); and Calgary, Alberta, from July 6 to 8.

The British Monarchy and the Canadian Forces are associated both constitutionally and ceremonially. Queen Elizabeth II, as the sovereign of Canada, holds the title of Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian Forces (a role expressly conferred to the Governor General), while she and the rest of the Royal Family hold honorary positions in the Army, Navy and Air Force, embodying the historical and special relationship between the Crown and the CF.
